Getting a Brazilian wax for the first time can feel like you're about to climb Mount Everest in your skivvies. But fear not - we're here to make this journey as smooth (pun intended) as possible. Follow these tips to ensure a comfortable and stress-free experience:
1. Choose a Reputable Salon: This in not the time for a DIY project or to trust just anyone with your delicate bits. Opt for a salon like Hot Wax Spa known for its professionalism, sanitation and expertise.
2. Let Your Hair Grow: Aim for about 4" of growth, which is roughly 10-days. Yes, we know, it's not the most glamorous phase, but it's key for a flawless finish and that fresh feeling you'll love.
3. Exfoliate 48hrs Before Your Appointment: Give your skin a little TLC with some gentle exfoliation. This helps give you a smoother wax and helps prevent those pesky ingrown hairs.
4. Workouts & Waxing: Freshly waxed skin and workouts don't mix, so get your sweat session in before your appointment, as you'll need to avoid workouts for the 24 hours afterward to avoid excess inflammation and irritation (which can lead to ingrown). So move that bod, in whatever way you prefer prior to your appointment, your muscles will thank you, and you'll enjoy a guilt-free rest and silky smooth skin.
5. Avoid Excess Caffeine and Alcohol Beforehand: Coffee and Alcohol may seem like a great idea pre-wax, and while a shot of tequila may calm your nerves, stimulants can actually make your skin more sensitive - increasing the discomfort. Stick to water beforehand to keep things smooth, and save the indulgences for after you've rocked your first Brazilian wax as a reward for being the fearless queen you are!
6. Pop an Ibuprofen: It's going to sting a bit, but a little preemptive pain relief can go a long way and make the process a lot more comfortable. Keep in mind, the discomfort is brief- only about 5-10 minutes. The rest of the time is just prepping and applying the wax. Just relax, breathe deeply, and remember that you're doing something great for yourself! 7. Plan Ahead: Schedule your wax a few days before a big event or vacation. No one wants to deal with post-wax sensitivity while strutting their stuff on the beach or at a party.
8. Communicate with Your Waxer: Brazilians can make even the bravest amongst us feel awkward, vulnerable and exposed, but it is our goal to make your wax or laser treatment as comfortable as possible. We specialize in hair removal so let us know if you have any questions or if there's something we can do to make your treatment more comfortable.
Congrats, you've conquered your first Brazilian wax like the fierce queen you are. To keep that smooth feeling going strong, be extra kind to your skin for the first 48hrs. Some sensitivity, redness or bumps are totally normal and should disappear in a few hours. Keep the area clean, as pores are a bit inflamed and open. Here's what to skip:
1. No Sun Exposure or Tanning: Waxing removes dead skin which can increase your
sensitivity to the sun and risk of sunburn, as well as increase inflammation (which leads to ingrowns). Think of your skin as a delicate flower-keep it out of the sun to avoid wilting. 2. Pools, Saunas or Hot Tubs: Avoid extreme heat post-wax. Your skin's not ready for a sauna session just yet. Stick to a cold compress instead - your skin will thank you!
3. No Workouts: Use this as a perfect excuse to take a gym break (or else get in your sweat session before your appointment - if you're a fitness fanatic). Exercise can increase
inflammation and sweat can mess with your skin's pH allowing bacteria to creep into those freshly waxed follicles (aka. hello breakout).
4. Sex?: It's best to hit pause on sexual activity for the first 24hrs. This is when your body is the most sensitive (and not the sexy kind) and susceptible to outside bacteria that can lead to breakouts. FEELING FRISKY: use a water-based lubricant to minimize friction and avoid irritation.
5. Still Unsure?: We've go you!! Just reach out via text or call. We're here to help and make sure you stay comfortable, smooth and fabulous!
Flawless waxes isn't just about the appointment-it's also about what you do afterward. Here's your post-wax checklist to keep you feeling irresistibly smooth:
1. Dry Brush: After 72hrs, get your dry brush out and use it at least 3 times a week. It helps remove dead skin cells, prevent ingrown hairs and get a better wax, next time around! Just remember to clean your brush regularly- no one wants a brush that's more "ick" than "chic"!
2. Moisturize Daily: Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate! Keep your skin healthy, and smooth with daily moisturizing - a little love for gorgeous skin. Some people also find that applying antibiotic ointment for the first 24hrs can help soothe skin and speed healing.
3. Only Use Products Recommended by Your Technician: Keep the area clean and avoid fragrances and additives on sensitive, intimate skin. Your technician knows what's best for your sensitive skin, so ask for their product recommendations and stick to them.
4. Reschedule: Keep a consistent wax schedule for best results. Your wax technician will help you find the perfect timing (usually every 4-6 weeks) for a longer hair-free period and less painful appointment. Plus, sticking to the schedule earns you our maintenance discount-bonus!
